Top surfers to ride A-Bay waves at SriLankan Airlines Pro

Arugam Bay, a famous surfing point located in Sri Lanka’s eastern coastal belt will play host for the second consecutive year, to the ‘SriLankan Pro Surf 2011’ from August 30 to September 4. The SriLankan Pro Surf 2011 has already reached the level of one of the world’s top-rated surfing events after the success of the inaugural event which took place last year.

With two principal events, the Men’s World Longboard Tour and the Women’s 6 Star World Tour, the ‘SriLankan Airlines Pro 2011’ tournament will attract over 100 world class surfers to Arugam Bay.

The women’s event which is a Six Star World Qualifier competition, is being held in Sri Lanka for the first time with nearly 60 participants from Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Hawaii, South Africa, Portugal, Costa Rica, Ireland, Italy, Puerta Rico, Brazil, Japan, UK, Indonesia and Tahiti.

The event is organized by the Australian Surf Professional ASP and is rated as a top grade event by the professional surfers of the world. It has reached the highest rating of ‘Six Stars’ by the ASP World Tour from which competitors qualify to contest for the World Title. SriLankan Airlines is the Principal Sponsor of the event for the second consecutive year with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau (SLTPB) as a co sponsor.
