Big guns make it into Badminton National finals

Top-seeded Dinuka Karunarathna lived up to his billing when he strolled past Lasitha Menaka 21-16, 21-9 during his semifinal match at the 59th National Badminton Championships played at the Royal College Sports Complex yesterday.

He will face the tournament’s second seed, Niluka Karunarathna- who thumped Nuwan Hettiarachchi 21-6, 21-9-in the men’s singles final today. In the ladies segment, number one seed Achini Rathnasiri booked her place in the final with a keenly contested 21-16, 21-15 win over Kavindi Ishadika. She will look to get the better of the unseeded Thilini Pramodika, who beat Nadeesha Gayanthi 21-17, 21-15. The men’s and women’s finals of the Badminton Nationals will be played from 1 pm today at the Royal College Sports Complex.
