Uddeepani and Wickremasinghe were the best

Matara District earned 127 points to emerge champions at the Bank of Ceylon Southern Province Sports Festival which was conducted at Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara. Hambantota was placed second with 123 points as Galle ended up at third with 99 points overall.

This two-day sports festival saw C. Wickremasinghe emerge as the best men’s athlete while W.H.A. Uddeepani won the main award in the women’s category. Wickremasinghe was awarded with the main trophy after his performance in the men’s 200m event where he clocked 25.6 seconds to win it.

Uddeepani who ran the 400m in 1:30.5 seconds was adjudged with the main trophy for her performance in the event. General Manager W.A. Nalini, Deputy General Manager D.M. Gunasekara, Southern Province General Manager D.K.N. Piyasoma and Manager Operations S. Seneviratne of Bank of Ceylon graced the occasion as chief guests.
