Alleged threat to dissident member: Tilvin summoned to police

The Thalangama police yesterday summoned Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna General Secretary Tilvin Silva to record a statement following a complaint that he threatened a prominent member of the dissident group.

The complaint was made by dissident member Gamini Madanayaka, who until recently held the title deed to the JVP’s headquarters building at Pelawatte in Battaramulla. The party got him to transfer the deed in the name of General Secretary Silva.

In his statement to the police, Mr Silva denied allegations that he threatened Mr. Madanayaka.
Thalangama Police Officer-in-Charge Upul Perera said the complainant had claimed that Mr. Silva in a threatening manner had told him not to return to the party headquarters.

The inspector said Mr. Silva told them that he was not present in the party headquarters on the day the incident was reported to have taken place.
