David Thornber, Regional Manager (South and Central Asia), in Durham University’s International Office, said: “We had no hesitation employing the services of VIEC (Sri Lanka) to promote Durham University. We are familiar with the VIEC Country Director, Sri Kandasamy. He is overwhelmingly qualified to promote the University and support students with their application and visa”.

The VIEC Country Director’s previous roles included the Education Services Managers’ post at the British Council in Sri Lanka (& Maldives), where he developed an excellent understanding of the local education market. He was commended by many UK University representatives for the quality and impact he created promoting UK qualifications in Sri Lanka. His performance at the British Council was rated as exceptional for his outstanding work which included overseeing the UK-Sri Lanka Partnership Links Scheme to facilitate redevelopment and capacity building in Sri Lankan institutions.

Sri Kandasamy said: “Durham has achieved its highest-ever ranking in the Sunday Times University Guide this year off the back of high levels of student satisfaction, the low dropout rate, highly sought after graduates and a strong research-led academic track record. Durham is a world leading University and VIEC is thrilled to be selected by Durham”.

Commenting on the Sunday Times University Guide 2012, Professor Chris Higgins, Vice-Chancellor of Durham University, said: “This league table is recognition for the distinctive research-led and rounded education Durham University and its College system offers some of the most able and motivated students from the UK and around the world.

“It also recognises Durham’s commitment to education and research which helps shape the world through sciences, social sciences and humanities. Durham is an ancient place of scholarship and yet is also one of the leading full-subject universities in the UK in the 21st Century. Our educational community, which is diverse and human in scale, produces global citizens who can make a significant contribution to tomorrow’s society and economy.”

Scott Parker, Education and Welfare Officer at Durham Students’ Union added: “Durham has a dedication to making all students feel comfortable as well as an outstanding reputation for education, with fantastic facilities for student enhancement and education”
