DJs Chicane and Nihal here for Electric Peacock Festival

Amongst the line up of international artists playing at this year’s Electric Peacock Festival on December 16 are two that are certain to make the event one to remember.

The first is legendary British producer DJ Chicane, a.k.a Nicholas Bracegirdle, who is billed as the main support for the Friday night.Chicane has written and produced some of the most enduring and haunting trance tunes of the last decade; Offshore, Halcyon, Don’t Give Up, Stoned in Love, Saltwater, and Middledistancerunner.

While having trained in classical guitar and piano at an early age, Bracegirdle's earliest influences in electronic music came from melodic composers and he has gone on to work with some of the world’s most influential music stars including Bryan Adams, Cher and Tom Jones. ‘Far from the Maddening Crowds’, Chicane's debut album from 1997, is still considered a seminal release among the trance music community, while the second album, 2000's Behind the Sun, was certified gold in the UK. In 2007 this third album Somersault was released on Bracegirdle's independent record label, and he released his fourth studio album Giants in 2010.

The festival organisers are thrilled to bring Chicane to Sri Lanka considering his notable success with the single ‘Don’t Give Up’ and are looking forward to him performing with a unique live percussion and vocals bringing the evening to life.

The second is BBC Radio 1 DJ Nihal, returning to Sri Lanka to spin his eclectic and innovative mix of Asian infused sounds. Nihal, born June 1, 1971, to Sri Lankan parents, began his involvement in the music industry as a promoter of rap shows in his native Essex. By the time he was about to graduate he was signed to a major label, and since then he has been a music journalist having written for Asiana, Eastern Eye, The Face, Mixmag, Hip Hop Connection and even the Observer.

As an artist Nihal has rapped with Fun Da Mental (back in 1995), Badmarsh & Shri, Mentor , Sona Family, and DJ Sanj. He launched his very own club night Bombay Bronx in London to showcase his love of Rap music, but from a distinctly Asian perspective. Since its creation Bombay Bronx has seen some of the biggest artists in the scene perform live such as Raghav, Swami, Jay Sean, and the Mentor Kollectiv, as well as giving a platform for unsigned artists such as Sunit and Raxtstar and Serese.

From using his experience of the record industry to help new artists to evolve, to helping to promote Asian music round the world Nihal will never stop doing what he loves and is thrilled to be returning to his ancestral home to help make it even more of a night to remember.
