Silk Route, new departure lounge at the BIA

The Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Ltd. (AASL), in a strategic partnership with Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, this week opened Silk Route, the departure lounge at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) exclusively for Commercially Important passengers (CIPs).

In 2009, the Silk Route Arrival Lounge was launched, Mobitel said in a press release.
As exclusive guests of the Silk Route lounge, CIPs will now have the opportunity to relax in luxury and comfort while enjoying the convenience of an expedited check-in, immigration and customs process. The Silk Route departure lounge is specially designed to provide a seamless and convenient check-in process that emphasizes guest comfort at all times, the company said.

The lounge will be equipped with state-of-the-art communication services including free Wi-Fi access to passengers enjoying the exclusive benefits provided at the lounge. Speaking at the launch ceremony, Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Ltd, Prasanna Wickramasuriya said, “We believe that the addition of the Silk Route Departure Lounge will further enhance the standards and appeal of the Bandaranaike International Airport, which is already considered one of the best airports in the region.

Nimal Welgama, Chairman, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, speaking at the ceremony commented, “As a national minded entity we are pleased to be partnering AASL in this timely venture which is of national significance and will undoubtedly benefit our country.”
