Ex-combatants get a taste of parliament with tea and tour

A group of 104 LTTE female ex combatants visited Parliament on Friday as part of their reintegration into society after undergoing a year-long government rehabilitation programme. Their visit coincided with the committee stage debate of the Ministry of Prisons and Rehabilitation.

The former combatants who were treated to tea were also taken on a tour of the House. Thy also met Prime Minister D.M.Jayaratna and Deputy Minister Vinyagamoorthy. The women also witnessed a parliamentary debate while several MPs including National List MP A.H.M.Azwar welcomed the former ex combatants.

Prisons Reforms and Rehabilitation Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera said their presence in Parliament was proof of the success of the rehabilitation and reintegration programme.
He said only 700 ex combatants of 11,000 remained in the rehabilitation centers.
