Butterfly Sports Club emerged Men’s Division ‘A’ champions at the Veterans Inter-Club Table Tennis Tournament held at S. Thomas’ College Indoor Stadium in Mt. Lavinia last Sunday. The winning team comprising veteran paddlers Lalith Priyantha, Dietmar Doering, Laxman Ranatunge and Mohamed Nazar beat the Veterans ‘A’ team made up of G.N. Lucas, M.M.M. Laffeer, Rajive Wijetunge and Sarath Wijesuriya in the final to clinch the Men’s Division ‘A’ championship.
In the Men’s Division ‘B’ final Gamini Moraes, Percy Welsh, Kumar Samaranayaka and Sirimal Fernando representing Astron Sports Club beat NSB Sports Club. N. Imbulana, M. Michael, W.P.N. Dhammika and Nihal Cooray represented NSB Sports Club.
Former national champion Namal Gunasekara teamed up with Ira Ruwanpathirana and Champa de Silva to represent Friendship Table Tennis Club that beat Sim Cap Sports Club in the Women’s final. Nilmini Wijetunge, Amara Chandrathilaka and Daya Pieris were the members of Sim Cap SC. |
