Sir Razik Fareed MV Bandarawela derives strength through education

Bandarawela Sir Razik Fareed Maha Vidyalaya is a reputed Muslim school in the Bandarawela Zone which derives strength and power to their community through education.

It was the period that state owned schools and private schools existed side by side. As a separate school did not exist exclusively for the Muslim children of Bandarawela and its neighbourhood, a few enthusiastic educated Muslims and those financially steady volunteered to move into action. The untiring efforts of Mr. B.S.B.N.Carrem, Jayah Careem, late Alhaj K.I. Jamaldeen and A.M.Sherif inspired to open the Zahira Primary Institution in 1952 with 84 students on the role. Mr. U.L.A.Ubaidus Sattar was the head of the school then. The school imparted education in the Tamil medium.

In 1973 after a spell of 22 years, this institution was able to move into a spacious location with good buildings. As a result the young Zahira Govt. School was renamed as Sir Razik Fareed Maha Vidyalaya in salutation and recognition of late Alhaj Sir Razik Fareed, a veteran scholar politician and a leader of the Muslim Community of Sri Lanka. In 2006 they got a well equipped Computer Laboratory. In 2007 the school was placed under the Navodya project on the recommendation of the former Deputy Education Minister Hon. Satchidanandan.

At present the leading reins of the school are placed in the hands of Alhaj M.A.M.Saheer (PGDA dip. in Edu/ BBA/ SLPS 2 II) who was a past pupil of the school and the first student who entered university. Nearly 45 teachers are providing quality education to more than 720 students.

“Enter to learn; Go forth to serve” is the vision of the school.
During recent years this school improved a lot in their curricular and extracurricular activities. Yearly the students of grade 05 gradually improved in grade 05 scholarship examinations. This year 6 students got through the examination. Recently, the school has been showing very good academic records in G.C.E.(O/L) and G.C.E.(A/L) examinations and students have achieved the highest grades in the district ranking.

The Football team of Razik Fareed is very famous in the district and they always bring provincial championships honours to their college. Mr. M.S.Ramjideen and S.AJabbar, District football coaches are the famous football players of this school having represented the Sri Lanka for several years.
The students have won so many medals in literary and Aesthetic activities at provincial level competitions. Fathima Fazna and Fathima Nafla won the provincial 1st places in the language day competitions 2010/2011.

The computer unit was established in 206, since then the students have participated in various software competitions and brought so many provincial awards to the school. Next year, the administrators are planning to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the school. They hope to organize a procession along with a Cultural programme and hold an exhibition as well.

“Creating a useful good citizen through education that aims to achieve national targets in knowledge, talent and skills development and in a learning environment centered on new information technology to face the new challenges in the 21st century” is the mission of the school.

The past and present principals and staff have toiled themselves to raise the standard of the college through their dedicated service, Sir Razik Fareed Maha Vidyalaya has became a popular Muslim School in the Uva Province and it has done a valuable service to the Muslim Community.
