Thurstan to host age group swimming for second year

The Beginners Age Group swimming competition organized by the Thurstan College Aquatic Club will be held for the second consecutive year on January 27, 28, and 29 at the Thurstan College Swimming Pool Complex.

The overall winners of the boys and girls categories will be awarded with Graetian Gunawardana and Maj. Gen. Dr. Dudley Perera Challenge trophies respectively. The organizers have made arrangements to provide each participant with a certificate. The inaugural competition was held in 2011 with more than 900 swimmers taking part in both boys and girls categories.

This year the organizers expect to give young swimmers from the northern and eastern provinces the opportunity of taking part in this competition. The income from the above event will be dedicated to uplift the standard of swimming at Thurstan College. The competition which has the blessings of the Ministry of Education is conducted in association with the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union.
