In yesterday’s three Dialog Champions League football encounters Army Sports Club recorded a 3-1 win against Air Force SC while Blue Star and Navy SC gained close wins, with the latter being awarded the win over Don Bosco.

The game between Navy and Don Bosco turned out to be a dramatic affair at Welisara. The players of Don Bosco walked out of the field in the 35th minute when referee Udayakantha Silva handed defender Mohamed Ramiz a ‘red card’. The offended player from Don Bosco was ordered off after he was engaged in a verbal outburst with the referee. At that stage the Sailors had gained a 1-0 lead off a goal from striker Jeewantha Dhammika booted in the 20th minute.

Match officials consulted Don Bosco officials who refused to resume the game. Finally the match official awarded the win to the hosts according to tournament rules of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka while calling for an inquiry on the incident.

Serious disciplinary breaches made by the players of leading football clubs has been on the rise this season according to a study. Number of yellow and red cards received by the players has reached a record high during the ongoing Dialog Champions League putting the disciplinary level of the involved teams in question.

Meanwhile striker Mohammed Izzadeen scored a hat-trick to give Army a resounding 3-1 win against Air Force at Seewalie ground in Ratnapura. The Soldiers led by 1-0 at half time after Izzadeen scored his first goal in the 35th minute but soon after the turnaround Gayan Bandara scored an equalizer. However Izzadeen scored again from a penalty in the 75th minute and sealed the game by scoring his third goal in the 83rd minute to steer the Soldiers towards the winning post. At the Kelaniya Football Complex Blue Star recorded a thrilling 1-nil win over Saunders after both teams ended the half time on a clean sheet.
