PCCSL Dispute Resolution Council meets

The first bi-monthly meeting for the Year 2012 of the 11-member Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) of the Press Complaints Commission of Sri Lanka (PCCSL) was held at the residence of Mr. Sam Wijesinha, Chairman DRC on Wednesday, January 25, 2012. The DRC is comprised of six members of civil society and five journalists.

Sumathipala ACBC President for a third term

Jagath Sumathipala has been elected for a third term as President of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress at the 85th Annual General Meeting held at the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress on Saturday, January 28.
Mr. Sumathipala had been serving the Executive Committee of the All Ceylon Buddhist Congress (ACBC) since 2002, and was first elected as President in 2006.

Under his guidance, ACBC hosted the 25th General Conference and 60th Anniversary of the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB), the 16th General Conference of the World Fellowship of Buddhist Youth (WFBY) and 8th Meeting of the World Buddhist University (WBU) held at the Cinnamon Grand in Colombo, Sri Lanka from November 13-17, 2010 as well as the first "World Buddhist Business Forum" during the 25th WFB General Conference in 2010.

Mr. Sumathipala has also been elected to the Executive Committee of the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) which comprises 41 countries

Mr. Sumathipala is Treasurer and Managing Director of Sri Lanka Dharma Chakkra Child Foundation, a social service organization serving destitute children. He is also a Member of the Presidential Steering Committee of 2600 Buddha Enlightenment Celebration Committee of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, a member of the Buddhist Advisory Council of the Ministry of Education, and of the Advisory Committee of the Department of Archeology.

Variety entertainment by Buddhist Ladies’

The annual variety entertainment programme 'Nirmani' presented by the students of Buddhist Ladies' College, Colombo 7 will be on Tuesday, January 31 at 2 p.m. at the National Youth Centre, Maharagama. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa will be the chief guest.

RASSL lecture by former diplomat

The Royal Asiatic Society Sri Lanka (RASSL) lecture on Monday January 30 at 5 p.m. by Bandu de Silva, former Ambassador Sri Lanka to France and UNESCO will be on 'A Survey of Archaeology of the Jaffna Peninsula: Pre-Buddhist to Buddhist settlements'. The lecture will be at the Gamini Dissanayake auditorium, No. 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7. All are welcome.
