Lights, lanterns and music at ‘Dragon Night’

AIESEC Sri Lanka, an International Youth Organization, in partner with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau recently organized a colourful Chinese New Year show, which was a first for Colombo.
The main aim behind the Chinese New Year Show was to celebrate the Chinese culture and tradition as well as share the festive aspect of the festival with those who are not too familiar with its trappings.

Each year AIESEC Sri Lanka coordinates over 200 internships as pat of their Global Community Development and internship programmes. This year as part of a 6-week project titled “Ayubowan China” the youth group put together – ‘Dragon Night’ as the main event to kick start the project.

The show saw 50 Chinese interns comprising university students from over 20 major cities in China, performing traditional Chinese Dances and Music items which included Chinese Opera, fan dance, instrumental items with the Pipa and the Erhu. In addition the show included Kung Fu demonstrations and Tai-Chi routines. Guest performances featured the Sri Lankan Navy and the National Youth Services Council.
