Rampant Ratnam roll past Renown

By David Stephens

With some systematic offence awash with pinpoint passes and accurate strikes, Ratnam SC dismantled Renown SC to walk away comfortable 4-0 winners of their Dialog Champions League clash, at the City Football League complex yesterday.

Ratnam benefited from the brilliance of E. Channa and R. Lasantha, both of whom scored twice in addition to being constant threats throughout the game.

Ratnam seized the initiative early, making enterprising runs at goal from the very outset of the game, and eventually the intense pressure yielded their first goal in the 5th minute. An inspired passage of play saw Ratnam cleverly weaving together a string of perfect passes before sending in the ideal cross for Channa, who wasted no time in depositing the ball into the goal’s top corner .

Three minutes and another deadly-accurate cross later, Ratnam were once again celebrating a headed goal, this time from Lasantha. With two goals against them, Renown were beginning to show signs of frustration and finally caved into their emotions when they gifted Ratnam a penalty in the 37th minute, which Channa duly converted.

With result now a foregone conclusion, Lasantha rattled in his second to send Renown crashing to an embarrassing loss and his fans into screams of delight. The match between Don Bosco and Nandimithra at Negombo ended a scoreless draw.
