Two men were sentenced to death by Kandy High Court Judge M.C.Pushpamalee over a murder committed in 2001 at Harasgama Road, Matale.
The two accused, B.G.Karunaratne, alias Raja and B.Ariyaratne, were indicted for the murder of H.D.Wimalasena, who was attacked when he went outside to light a lamp for (?) There were eight injuries on the victim’s body including a fatal blow to the head that caused brain damage, according to evidence submitted by Judicial Medical Officer Dr.Sanjeewa Illananayake.
State Counsel Nayantha Wijesundera outlined events leading up to the victim’s death and six witnesses were called by the prosecution, including the victim’s mother.
The High Court Judge ordered the convicts to be held in custody at the Bogambara Prison until they are hanged. The date of the hanging will be announced by the President. |
