Sachin keeps his driving form

Sachin de Silva & Afflii Rahim have played consistent Golf through the year and have consolidated their position at the Top of the RCGC Grand-Prix Standings with only 3 more Rounds to go, to bring the curtain down on another year of Golf at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.

The RCGC Grand-Prix first introduced to motivate Member Golfers to play in Monthly Medal Rounds and regular Competitions was inaugurated in 1983 and the First Grand-Prix was Sponsored by Uni-Walkers Ltd through the bold acceptance of the concept by the Late Lance Abaysekera an avid Golf enthusiast.

The Inaugural Prize Giving was elaborately organized with Co-Sponsorship from the Hotel Lanka Oberoi now Cinnamon Grand. The RCGC Grand-Prix has not looked back since and a regular number of over 200 members participate in the Annual Competitions. Players keep accumulating Points based on the best 28 Scores returned for each round and the most consistent Player will amass points out of which the Top 10 players in the Golf Club can be identified.

The Format has developed into different Categories to identify Seniors and Masters apart from the 'Open' Category which includes players from the Handicap Divisions A, B and C. Significantly the best and most consistent Golfer can be identified in the Gross Standings Category as in this Gross Points Table, Handicap does not count and therefore a Member can be considered the best Amateur Golfer in the Club for that Year.

However, there can be the rare Golfer like Rusi Captain who does not play in the regular Grand-Prix Tournaments but plays in the RCGC Club Championship which is also without Handicap and has proven his ability winning the Championship many times over! Having said that young Sachin must receive all the credit to have Topped the Gross Standings leading by 181 points from Sanjiv Vairavanathan the Captain of RCGC who is probably the first captain of the Club in many years to reach as high as Second best Player in the RCGC Grand-Prix Gross Standings probably since it's inception.

The contest in the Nett Standings on the other hand is far more open and competitive as the Handicap given to each player is the 'equalizer' or gives every player a chance to compete with each other on an even keel. Therefore the Winner in the Nett Standings can be considered the most consistent Handicap Golfer in the Club for the Year which Title Afflii Rahim a very keen and rapidly progressing Golfer richly deserves.

There are also many youngsters who have made the Top 10 in both the Gross and Nett Standings and are possibly the future member Golfer prospects at the RCGC. Sachin De Silva, Sanjiv Vairavanathan, Nirmal Hettiarachy, David Evans and Lalith Rohith are in the Top 10 in both the Gross and Nett standings and are worthy of mention as consistent Golfers.

Won Hie Lee a regular keen Golfer has Topped both Categories Gross and Nett and can be named the Best Senior Golfer at the RCGC. Former Captain and Cricketer Kumar Boralessa heads the Gross Standings in the Masters while Ranjan Rajendran is on Top in the Nett Standings. Nimal Boralessa completes the Top 3 Masters players at the RCGC.
