Japan further relaxes travel advisory to Sri Lanka

The Japanese government has further relaxed the travel advisory to Sri Lanka in relation to travel to the Northern province, a release issued by the Japanese Embassy in Colombo stated.

In the wake of the relaxing of its travel advisory to its nationals the Japanese government has decided to reduce the security cautionary level in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya districts on par with the Colombo city, the release said.

It noted that accordingly the revised travel advisory has been categorized on the level of “Travel Caution” (Level 1), which advises Japanese nationals to stay alert to the security situation and take necessary precautions.

Travel to Mullaithivu district and some of the areas in Mannar district in the Northern Province, would prevail at the level of “Recommendation to consider whether or not to travel” (Level 2) due to mine clearing activities which are in progress, it stated.

Earlier the Japanese Foreign Ministry recommended its Japanese nationals “Consider whether or not to travel” (Level 2) to the areas other than the cities of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya and Mannar in the Northern Province.
