Second half burst too much for Kingswood

By M. Shamil Amit

The second half burst put in by Isipathana was too much for Kingswood to handle as they succumbed to a 35-5 defeat in their Singer Division 1A inter-schools rugby encounter played at Longdon Place yesterday.

Isipathana though being restricted to 8-5 by Kingswood scored a further 27 points in the second half while accumulating their points through two goals, three tries and 2 penalties to the solitary try by Kingswood.

Isipathana drew first blood with a penalty booted over by fly half Hirantha Perera and then followed it up with an unconverted try scored by wing three Uditha Premathilake before center Nuwan Perera’s try helped Kingswood reduced their opponents lead with which the short whistle was blown.

On resumption Isipathana began their score in the same pattern as in the first half by a penalty booted over Hirantha. Hirantha increased Isipathana’s lead when he went over for an unconverted try.
A try by wing three quarter Panchana Ranasinghe further increased the Havelock Park boys lead while No 8 Arun Kumara joined the try scoring band which ended with a try scored by scrum half Sudam Suriyarachchi. Hirantha succeeded in only making one conversion.

Referee: Dinka Peiris.
