Laugfs launches insurance policy product for customers

View(s):

Laugfs Holdings Limited (Laugfs) through their supermarket chain has partnered with international insurance firm Chartis Insurance to offer accident and disability cover to Laugfs’ customers.

Group Chairman W.H.K.A Wegapitiya told the media that this cover will provide those customers, with a minimum bill of Rs 1,500, an insurance worth Rs 50,000 or a gift voucher worth this amount. “We aim to reward our customers meaningfully,” he added.
When purchasing Rs 2,500 worth of goods, customers are rewarded with Rs 100,000 insurance cover or a gift voucher to any of their 25 supermarkets, the company said.

On the sidelines of the launch, the chairman spoke to the Business Times about the plant to produce titanium oxide from mineral sand ongoing.

Laugfs is doing this project together with the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC). Mr. Wegapitiya said that the investment for this plant isn’t finalised as yet. “We plan to set this up within two years,” he added, noting that this would allow value addition to mineral sands, which have so far been exported from the country as a raw bulk commodity. The setting up of the plant will allow production of titanium dioxide from ilmenite, which Laugfs will obtain from mineral sands extracted from Pulmoddai.
