Flooded out!
By S. SiriwardanaView(s):Blockages are preventing water from the Dummalamodera Ela flowing into the lagoon at Kalutara.
The ela often overflows because the water doesn’t flow from the lagoon to the sea.
As a result whenever it rains villagers are forced to abandon their homes as the water flows into houses in the area.
Thousands of villagers living in the vicinity suffer due to these blockages.
Linton Kalutharage a resident, complained, “When it rains we have to move furniture and other valuables as our houses get flooded.
Some villagers believe that the reason to this is the construction of cement walls in the area which blocks the waterways.
