George Simpkin to re-structure SLRFU
By Shamseer JaleelView(s):Former Sri Lanka, Kandy SC, China and Germany Rugby Coach George Simpkin will be in charge for the re-structure of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU).Asanga Seneviratne, president of the SLRFU speaking to the Sunday Times said that George will be in change and the project will kick off in August this year. He further went on to praise George for his contribution towards Sri Lankan Rugby. George was also instrumental in organizing the Hong Kong Sevens which is more than 36 years old and one of the best sevens stop over in the world. Later George involved in the Singer-SriLankan Rugby Sevens and the last being the Head of Carlton Rugby Sevens.
In another development former England Hooker and Present Sri Lanka Head Coach Phil Greening will take over as Director Elite Development. His contract will run in to 2 years on a permanent basis. Next year’s Carlton Sevens will take place after the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow (June 2013).
Former Isipathana and Kandy SC player Sajith Saranga was released by Kandy SC and will play for the Up Country Lions in their match against CH & FC today in Colombo. Rizly Ilyas Secretary of the SLRFU applauded Kandy SC’s gesture and told that it is a very good decision by the club and this will ensure Sajith Saranga can play for the Nawalapitiya Club once the letter is given and the contract money being paid to his former club.
