AUSTRALIA: A Global Leader for International Students

View(s):

Australia is an increasingly popular study destination with international students from across the globe. For many students, Australia may represent a better study destination than other popular alternatives

A welcoming place to live
Apart from being a great place to get a first rate education, Australia is also a fantastic place to live. It provides a welcoming and multicultural society with a population that originates from around 200 countries. Australian people have a reputation for being amongst the friendliest in the world, and Australian cities are safe and clean, with low crime rates.
The Mercer 2010 worldwide quality of living survey recently found that three Australian cities ranked in the top 25 for overall quality of living Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Better value for money
Australian education programmes represent great value for money. Australian courses are often considerably cheaper. Meaning that international students can save many thousands of dollars on tuition fees by choosing to study in Australia.
Not only this, Australian courses are often shorter than alternatives in other countries. Most Australian degree courses can be completed in three years, and even less if the education provider works on a trimester system. This means that you can save a whole year’s tuition fees if you choose to study in Australia.

Low cost of living
Australia’s strong economy and low unemployment rate means international students who wish to work have no problems finding a job.

States and Territories
Australia is made up of six states and two territories. To find out more about each state and territory, use the map below
Education : What matters most!
Higher education, the biggest worry of students is now eased with the emerging pathways & programmes made available at various education providers. In fact, an O/L student no longer has to wait to complete A/L to follow up a Bachelors degree. The pathways are made convenient that a student after O/L can take a foundation program and join a Bachelors degree without wasting 2 more years for A/L.
Moreover, an A/L student can easily join a Bachelors program without waiting for results. The requirements for higher education are made so easier & students are provided with the option of fast track programs & double majors to choose from.
Australia, a major higher education destination has recently changed its regulations & conditions on student visas, making it easier for students to obtain visas. In truth, students are no longer required to show funds for longer periods. Postgraduate students by research or coursework also get extended work permit visas for 2 years.

The benefits of working in Australia
Working in Australia is a beneficial career choice for a number of reasons. For one, the country itself offers natural wonders and an array of recreational, entertainment and sports activities. Finding a career in Australia may be somewhat difficult to non-citizens, but once you do find work, the benefits far outweigh the costs it may have taken to get there.

Course-related work is an advantage in the graduate labour market. Casual work provides useful income for students and provides opportunities to practise your English language skills meet new people and develop useful contacts.

Opportunity for Growth
One of the rare qualities that the Australian work philosophy adheres to is that employees should be able to grow within the company they work for. Australian employers believe in nurturing talent and helping employees advance. As of 2007, tens of thousands of jobs were created and, according to Peter Costello, the government’s former treasurer, “When you see strong jobs growth of 22,000 additional jobs in one month, that is consistent with a growing economy, good opportunity.

Salaries That Are Commensurate With Work Load
Many non-Australian work environments give the same salary to employees with the same job title, even though, more often than not, certain employees are visibly more hard working and carry a heavier work load. Australian companies reward this extra diligence with compensation that is commensurate with the employee’s job responsibilities.

Australian Scholarships
The Australia Awards comprised two streams: an achievement stream that targets the best and brightest students, researchers and professionals to come to Australia and for Australians to do the same offshore and a development stream that builds capacity in developing countries.
