Jayasiri in action at European Summer Festivals
Popular band Jayasri, based in Vienna, is billed to perform in various Summer Festivals across Europe, including prestigious ‘Vienna Jazzfest’ in mid July.The Jayasri duo was in Colombo for Avurudu and they were seen in action at a number of outdoor concerts in and around Colombo. Rohitha and Roshan were seen in action at many rock and reggae concerts in Negombo, Hikka and Unawatuna.
‘Jayasri’ can perhaps be termed as Sri Lanka’s biggest export to the global music industry. Years of experience in performing on the world stage, especially the European music circuit has made the band to occupy a top spot in the world music talent list, often being called upon to enliven cultural events, festivals, tours in all continents with their unique brand of music.
In this summer the band Jayasri will be performing at some of the popular and prestige festivals, concerts around Europe together with some of the popular names in the world of showbiz.
‘Fools Garden’, Julian Marley, ‘Sebastian Sturm and Band’, ‘Manfred Manns Earth band’, Hans Soellner, ‘Famara’, ‘Meddasi’, ‘Jobarteh Kunda’, ‘Jahcoustix’, ‘Jah Riddim’ are to name a few.
The boys will be in action at Vienna Jazzfest, Afrika Tage Festival, Seasplash Festival in Italy, Reggae Summer in Germany.
According to Rohitha Jayalath, the leader of the Jayasri duo, who was in touch with TV Times, the band will perform many concerts in Austria, Italy, Germany, Scandinavia and in Slovenia.‘Reggae Jam Open air Festival in Reinsberg’, ‘ROZ World Music Open Air Festival’, ‘Summerjam in Germany were some of the biggest events the Jayasri duo will performed during the Summer season.
‘Our unique sound and variations in our programmes have made us to take part in different music genres like Reggae, World music, Ethno and Jazz festivals in Europe’ Rohitha said. Apart from their tours across Europe, their studio work continuous positively on their new album.
‘We are hoping to release our new album end of this year’ he added.
‘We are working on some new songs for the forthcoming album and also some theme songs for films and teledramas including Director Boo Dee Keerthisena´s new venture ‘Nimnayaka Hudakalawa-Alone in a Valley’.
Music direction on ‘Thatudenawado’ and Chamara Janaraj´s teledrama ‘Piyavi’ and ‘Sulangata Kalin’ are some of the small screen activities, the boys are involved with.
Their repertoire has spanned across through film music and songs in award winning films locally ‘Mille Soya-Bonjourno Italia’ and internationally ‘Machan’ at the Venice Film Festival 2008.In 2003, the band was crowned winners of the prestigious ‘Austrian World Music Awards’, ahead of 77 international artistes.
