Dulanjana sends CCC reeling
Navy left arm spinner Dulanjana Mendis with a match bag of 12 for 85 sent CCC reeling to help his side record an innings and 53 runs with more than a day to spare in their Under 23 inter-club cricket encounter concluded at the CCC ground yesterday. Dulanjana put Navy on top at the end of the first day’s play when he wrecked the CCC innings with impressive figures of 7 for 16 to bundle them out for a meager 31 runs.
In the second innings he ended with another five wicket haul to bowl out CCC resuming on their overnight score of 25 for 2 for a score of 119 with their innings lasting just 28 overs. Navy helped by a knock of 51 from Malith Cooray and a 46 by Duleeka Tissakuttige made 203. The match ended at 1.30 p.m. on the second day.
NCC too finished their match with a day to spare as they were too good for Chilaw Marians whom they crushed by an innings and 133 runs in the match played at the NCC ground. NCC having dominated the opening day’s proceedings carried it to the second day. From their overnight score of 269 for 6 they added a further 19 runs before making a declaration with the score on 286 for 8.
Chilaw Marians fared no better in the second innings. After making a low score of 73 in the first innings, they succumbed to a score of 80 with left arm spinner Aamil Anaz doing the damage.
Tamil Union secured their third outright win with a comfortable seven wickets win over Ragama CC in the match concluded at P, Sara Stadium yesterday. Ragama CC resuming on their overnight score of 82 for 3 went on to make 258 leaving Tamil Union a simple target of 133 runs victory which they reached it in the 28th over.
Air Force made a grand recovery against Leo CC at Rifle Green. The recovery came through a valuable 102 runs stand for the sixth wicket between T. Nadeera who made a top score of 140 and Buddika Sandaruwan. Later Rosco Thattil made a quick-fire 75 which saw Air Force who was badly placed on 92 for 5 ending their innings making a formidable score in reply to Leo CC’s 279. The match between Bloomfield and BRC at the BRC ground is poised for an interesting finish when play resumes on the final day today. Bloomfield though taking a first inning lead was shot out for 125 in the second innings which left BRC a target of 207 runs for victory and when play ended on day two they were 68 for 3 needing a further 139 runs.
Army took a narrow first inning lead over Moratuwa SC at De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa. Army resuming on their overnight score of 123 for 4 went on to make 212 in reply to Moratuwa SC’s 199. Moratuwa SC batting the second time going in for quick runs ended the day making 248 for 5 with half tons coming from Anushka Perera and Pawan Devinda.
