Havelocks continue their unbeaten run
Havelocks Sports Club who are enjoying one of their best Rugby Seasons in the recent past continued their winning form and unbeaten run at their revamped home grounds at Havelock Park when they went past a helpless CH & FC outfit by 51 Points (9 Tries, 3 Conversions) to 13 Points (1 try, 1 Conversion, 2 Penalties) in their Dialog Inter Club “A” Division encounter which concluded yesterday.
At the short breather it was the Park Club who led by 27-10.
Havelocks played a super brand of rugby. Their forwards and three quarters combined really well. In loose play it was Havies who were a superior outfit. Only one thing let Havies down which was the number of handling errors. If not easily they would have notched up another 25 points.
On the other hand CH & FC played well in patches, especially in the last 15 minutes of the initial half and the start of the second half. They were yards slower than their opponents. They did not play for a purpose and they were aimless most part of the game. The fresher led side coached by an expert in the rugby field Tony Amit will have a lot of work to do with the young outfit. They lacked guts and energy. They depended more on their overseas players to deliver the results.
Havelocks drew first blood through a Lee Keegle try with centre William Hakalua converting. Minutes later winger Mithun Hapugoda went over for a try. Third Havies try was scored by centre Niroshan Fernando. CH & FC’s only try was scored by their full back Alex Samua. Full back Nalin Kumara added the extra points. Mithun Hapugoda scored minutes before the stroke of half time. Nalin Kumara reduced Havies lead through a superb 48 Meter Penalty kick at goal to take short breather at 27-10.
After the turnaround Havies scored through Lee Keegle and Sopo Priuami (2) and No.8 M Nishan. Nalin Kumara booted a penalty. Havies will face an acid test when they take on another unbeaten team in the league, Navy SC at Havelock Park next week.
