Dual plays to go on the boards
View(s):The latest two stage plays produced by Gunapala Karunapathirana, ‘Dengue, Dengue Dengue, Maranthikai Dengue’ and ‘Dangakara Muwa Pancha’ will be staged soon. Accredited for earlier stage productions like – ‘Meda peradiga’, ‘Sulang Kethe Pambaya’ and ‘Semada Niyang’ Karunapathirana’s latest double production comprises of songs sung by veteran and up and coming singers.
To the lyrics of venerable Kodikaragoda Sunitha Thero and the music of Jayantha Gamage the songs for these stage plays wil be sung by Rodney Warnakula, Upali Kannangara, Disni Nakandala, Nirojith Manorathna, Savithri Lakmali, Sumathipala Perera, Pradeep Nishantha, Jayani Kaushalya, Harison Peiris, Suneth Rakitha, Tharushi Navodya, Anusha Sewwandhi and Ruchira Deshan.
Karunaratne says that he is ready to stage ‘Dengue, Dengue Dengue, Maranthikai Dengue’, for a social cause and therefore would be staged free of charge in order to educate the public of this rapidly rising epidemic.
Karunarante has earlier directed a series of one episodic teleplays ‘Ira Handa Yata’, ‘Karaththa Rodaya’, ‘Nonimi Nadhee’, ‘Punaragamanaya’, ‘ Nimak Nethi Sasara Maga’ and ‘Awurudu Udanaya’ for Sri Lankan television.
