Palitha comes with a circus
View(s):Award winning actor and playwright Palitha Silva’s latest theatrical production ‘Circuskarayo’ (The Circus) will go on the boards on July 31 at Lionel Wendt theatre Colombo.
A multi-talented actor and theatre director who won a number of awards in theater, cinema and mini-screen, Palitha’s latest stage production is a contemporary experience with a psychological analysis of human behaviour presented in a modern theater format.
“Terrorism and extremism are modern issues we did not find in the traditional theatre. And I wanted to explore themes like that,” Palitha said.
“The play has some qualities of absurd theatre but to what genre of Sri Lankan theatre it would it fall into, will be decided in the future,” he explained about his novel drama.
Winning national awards in his early directions like “Thawath ek Wiroopiyek” in 1982 and “Ballangen prawesam Wenu” in 1984, Palitha has acted nearly 100 stage plays and won a number of awards including the Best stage actor and an international recognition with Bunka International Award from Japan in 2004.
Acting for more than 400 teledramas and 40 films he has won multiple awards including
Best Supporting Actor in cinema and Best Director, Best Actor and Most Popular Actor in television. A dedicated and young cast namely Randhima Thilini, Kalana Gunasekara, Stephan Diluk, Nilanka Perera and Nilantha Ganegoda had to undergo extensive training which included exhausive physical training for nearly two years in order to act for ‘Circuskarayo’.
The music was directed by Navaratne Gamage, the choreography of the play was done by Manybandhu Vidyapathy.
