Speed Drome : Fast tracks and culinary journeys
Sri Lanka is experiencing the new kind of entertainment activities with the opening of Speed Drome at in Pellawatta Battaramulla.
‘Speedrome’ is Sri Lanka’s first ever purpose built Go Kart track and Sports facility along with swimming pool, ‘The Grid’ restaurant and lounge and Kid Karting.
Speed Drome is an excellent facility for racing meets in general and has witnessed some great events to date. The racing fraternity have identified this location as one of the best tracks for Go-Kart Racing and held several events up to now. Go-Karting has been the main sport in the complex for both experienced drivers and novices alike.
Owned and operated by McLarens Group of Companies speed Drome is a professional setup equipped with 20 top-end Go Karts, computerized timing and scoring systems, professionally trained staff, designated spectator areas, an air conditioned VIP area along with a unique motor racing theme restaurant The GRID. The GRID boasts a fine dining menu that will satisfy your taste buds like no other.
‘The Grid Restaurant and the racing track is becoming very popular with motor racing fans and families like to go out and enjoy this type of atmosphere. Especially the restaurant is getting popular with corporate clientele and private parties’ said Ajantha Thanthulage, the Promotions Manager of McLarens.
The facility could also be used for parties, groups or corporate events, structured to ensure maximum participation and enjoyment, offering a variety of options to suit the requirement and budget. ‘The facility was first created to woo motor racing fraternity and today it is popular as a family entertainment venue.
The Grid Restaurant has a special area with toys for kids. The restaurant could accommodate nearly 120 guests’ said Sydney Fernando, the Restaurant Manager.In the menu, The Grid offers variety of soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers and main meal including Italian, Continental, Sri Lankan and Thai dishes for differed taste buds.
Speed Drome is looking at introducing a Karoke Lounge to meet the growing demands of its guest. The Speedrome could accommodate 75 vehicles. McLarens Hotels also owns and operates Topaz and Tourmaline in Kandy and also Palm Village in Uswetakeiyawa.
