St Patrick’s Jaffna Colombo alumni all set for centenary celebrations
View(s):The St. Patrick’s College Jaffna Alumni Association Colombo Branch will hold its centenary celebrations from August 10. The celebration commences with a Holy Mass at St Teresa’s Church on August 10 followed by a sing-along. On Saturday, August 11, the centenary Dinner Dance will be held and a beach party to wrap it all up on the 12th. The leading Catholic educational institution in Jaffna, St Patrick’s College is presently on her 162nd year of existence. Started in 1850 in a humble way it slowly but steadily developed reaching its zenith during the stewardship of Rev Fr. Long and Rev Fr. Mathew where its achievements both academic and co-curricular were remarkable.
The St. Patrick’s College Jaffna Old Boys Association Colombo Branch later renamed as Alumni Association is on its 100th year, having been founded in 1912. Its first president was K.C. Sandrasegara, an eminent lawyer and since then there have been 18 presidents.
Meanwhile the Global Union of Patricians will have their celebrations in Jaffna from August 4 – 6 commencing with the “Patrician Walk” at the Jaffna Public Library from the foot of the statue of Rev. Fr. T.M.F. Long, former Rector and distinguished educationist.
