CMA Sri Lanka hosts SAFA board meeting in Colombo
View(s):The South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) comprising Chartered and Management Accounting bodies of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives held its 22nd board meeting in Colombo recently. A representative of Bhutan was invited and attended the meeting as an observer, the Colombo chapter said in a media release.
SAFA President Mohammed Rafi, from the Management Accounting Institute of Pakistan chaired the meeting while the Vice President Abdul Mannan from Bangladesh together with members of the board which included the Chartered Accounting Bodies of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Management Accounting Bodies of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and the observer from Bhutan participated.
CMA Sri Lanka hosted the meeting and was represented by Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala who is President of CMA Lanka, a Past President SAFA and a Founder Signatory to the formation of SAFA in 1984 in New Delhi India,. as the then President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.
At the board meeting many matters of professional interest to member bodies were discussed including education, accounting standards, etc. A new Committee on International Affairs was set up under the Chairmanship of Prof. Watawala and its main objective is to assist the other countries in the South Asian Region Afghanistan, Bhutan and Maldives in setting up and strengthening the accountancy profession in these countries.
