Interactive Law session at the APIIT Law School
View(s):APIIT Law School held an open day by way of an interactive law session for all interested in pursuing a higher education in law. Since law isn’t a subject familiar at school level students were able to get a feel of the study and subject areas at this session which was held on the 27th of July 2012. All students were invited to bring along their parents too for this session which included a mock trial at APIIT law school’s moot court (mock court room). Students witnessed a mooting session done by the current law students and law lecturer Marini de Livera.
The APIIT law school is the only law school in Sri Lanka to have a moot court. This was followed by a one on one session with the law lecturers panel to discuss the subjects and future career path including an introduction to the field of law and career options available in the country. The LLB degree offered by the APIIT law school is an internal degree of the Staffordshire University, UK. This includes a special module called the SKILL’s module in the syllabus which is a method of delivery and assessment unique to APIIT and is essential in grooming a lawyer in their ability to reason and present, as explained by Law lecturer Thilini. The participants also received a tour of the facilities. The session was concluded with refreshments.
