The Rotaract Club of the University of Moratuwa in collaboration with the Ministry of Education initiated ‘INSPIRER 2012’, a series of language enhancing programmes targeted towards school going students.

The initial step of the programme was held last month at the Swarnamali Balika M. V. Anuradhapura under the theme of ‘Raising Eco-consciousness’ to improve the English knowledge of the ordinary level students in the Anuradhapura district along with their environmental awareness.

Students from fourteen schools in the Anuradhapura district took part in this programme through a number of activities planned and carried out by the Rotaractors of the University of Moratuwa. A presentation prepared and conducted by the students on current environmental issues and a conference which followed with a documentary on Water Consumption made up the first day while on the second, the participants engaged in a quiz competition and a workshop.
Two important lecturers on Environment were also conducted by Dr. Jagath Manatunga and Dr Lesly Ekanayake, Senior Lecturers of University of Moratuwa.

At the end of the programme prizes were distributed to students who showed outstanding communication and other skills throughout the two days.
