IGP assures Hirunika he will look into reports that Duminda is back
View(s):Police Chief N.K.Illangakoon has assured Hirunika Premachandra, daughter of slain politician Bharatha Laksman Premachandra that he will look into reports that Parliamentarian Duminda Silva, wanted in connection with the killing, had returned to the country.
She had raised the issue after an unusual VIP movement was witnessed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) early Friday morning.
Although Airport authorities denied any VIP movement, at least five defender vehicles including Special Task Force (STF) jeeps were seen speeding away from the BIA after the arrival of a flight at about 12.55 a.m. Mr. Silva has been receiving treatment in Singapore since late last year for gunshot injuries in the head sustained during a shootout that killed Mr. Premachandra.
The shootout took place on the day of the local government elections on October 8 last year in Mulleriyawa.
A statement recorded from Mr. de Silva while he was in Singapore was presented in the Colombo Magistrate’s court recently. In the statement, he had said he could not remember the shooting incident.
