City & Guilds Graduate & Post Graduate Diplomas in Engineering
View(s):On the 16th July 2012, the British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, H.E John Rankin hosted the Launch of the Graduate Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma in Engineering conducted by City & Guilds the world leader in vocational qualifications.
The prestigious event was held at Westminster House the official residence of the British High Commissioner and was graced by Hon. S.B.Dissanayake Minister of Higher Education, Prof Dayantha Wijesekera Chairman, Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission and Country representative of the Institute of Civil Engineers (UK), Mr. .Mike Dawe, Director of International City & Guilds Group. City & Guilds has been in the forefront in offering Engineering Qualifications since its inception in 1878.The Graduate and Post Graduate Diplomas in Engineering have been developed to provide a flexible route to career success as a professional engineer in areas of Civil, Electrical, Electronic & Telecommunications, Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering.
City & Guilds is working together with the UK’s leading professional institutions such as The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) to ensure that the qualifications are aligned with the requirements for Incorporated Engineer (Graduate Diploma) and Chartered Engineer (Post Graduate Diploma) registration. These qualifications are designed to meet UK specifications, and provide a flexible method of continued professional development for learners already in employment. The qualifications aim to reflect the international nature of knowledge, skills and activities needed for different countries or cultures and provide the learners with both theoretical and practical knowledge.
Mr. Mufthy Hashim, Regional Manager – South Asia, City & Guilds International, making the presentation at the event, explained the flexibility of the diploma program. He said “Learners will normally attend formal courses of study at City & Guilds approved centres in preparation for examinations and assessments of these qualifications. They may take as few or many subjects as they wish each year and can study at their own pace with a choice of subjects according to their own expertise and intended future direction.”
The register of Chartered Engineers (CEng) and Incorporated Engineers (IEng) is held by the Engineering Council, the UK regulatory body for the engineering profession. The Engineering Council sets and maintains the internationally recognized standards of professional competence and ethics that govern the award and retention of these titles. To become professionally qualified, candidates must be a member of a licensed professional engineering institution, who will act as the awarding body for their registration. The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) are the three largest licensed professional engineering institutions in the UK, allowed to assess candidates for inclusion on their register of professional engineers
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) welcomes applications from holders of the following City & Guilds qualifications:
- City & Guilds Graduate Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- City & Guilds Graduate Diploma in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering
- City & Guilds Graduate Diploma in Information Technology.
- City & Guilds Postgraduate Diploma in Electrical Engineering
- City & Guilds Postgraduate Diploma in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering
- City & Guilds Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) welcomes applications from holders of the following City & Guilds qualifications:
- City & Guilds Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering
- City & Guilds Postgraduate Diploma in Civil Engineering
