The value of sports

”All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy”, is a popular saying. All of you will agree with this saying. In fact it stresses the importance of extra curricular activities, especially sports. We are aware that no education is complete without sports. To do our studies, we must be physically fit as well. When we are physically fit, we will also be mentally fit.

Then we will be able to do everything successfully. When a person does not take part in sports, he will be weak in both mind and body.

Sports teach us many valuable lessons too; to take victory and defeat in the right spirit and also to be patient. Sports teach us to be good leaders in the future. Sports teach us to be patient, honest, polite, loyal, intelligent and enthusiastic. The value of sports is highlighted by all this.

That is why it is said that no education is complete without sports.

My trip on the new highway

Last Saturday, we went to Aluthgama. We went on the new highway. It was very beautiful and very long. We went at a speed of 100 miles per hour. It was like flying in a jet.

We saw beautiful paddyfields and mountains. We paid money to go on the highway. There were no pedestrians and signal lights on the highway. We came home quickly.

I enjoyed my trip a lot.

An unforgettable experience

It was the day I travelled by the Intercity train to Kandy. I remember that day so well because it was to be my very first journey by train.

Early one Saturday morning, my father, mother, sister and I went to the Fort Railway Station. We had a walk along the platform to our compartment A, which was behind the engine room with the engine driver inside. Since we were early, I quickly rushed to my seat. No sooner that I sat down, the train jerked forward and gradually started to move. Luckily for me, my seat was near a window. I enjoyed myself looking out of the window.

We went to the canteen to have our breakfast. Walking along the corridor was an experience. I found it so difficult to walk because the train kept swaying from side to side.

Drinking my cup of tea was yet another experience. Approaching the hill-country, the train slowed down as it had to climb up. It was fun when the train passed through the tunnels. Our first stop was at the ‘Peradeniya Junction.’ Here it stopped for a short time. The next stop was the ‘Kandy Railway Station’ where the train came to a halt.

I’m a fruit in a shop

I am a fruit in a shop. My name is Dragon fruit. I am just living in a basket with other dragon fruits.

One day a little girl came near us. She stared at us and ran to her father. She said, “Daddy, Daddy, I need a dragon fruit.” So her father chose me. He put me into a basket. Inside the basket there were lots of things like food, toys and other things.
I was put inside a bag. After a while I was taken inside a house. The little girl cut me into two and ate me. That was the end of my life.

My favourite game

My favourite game is cricket. It is an international game. There is a World Cup tournament every four years. Cricket is the national game of England but Australia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, West Indies, South Africa and New Zealand are also dominating in this game.
