Edlocate can guide high achiever students to win scholarships
View(s):Edlocate, with twelve years of unblemished operations as a premier student guidance agency serving students in Sri-Lanka and the Maldives has continuously assisted high achievers to win scholarships in universities it represents. Their very first student in the year 2000 Dr. Piravenan Mahendrarajah won a full scholarship to University of Adelaide. From then to now there had been many high achievers who have secured undergraduate and post graduate courses at several universities in Australia including the Go8 universities. The scholarships awarded could vary from full tuition fee remission together with living expenses to partial fee remission.
Hasini Wickramasinghe from Royal Institute International School passed A/L in June of 2011 with 4 A* grade passes. “I checked the web site of a number of universities in Australia and then contacted the University of Melbourne who directed me to Edlocate” said Hasini.
She applied to the University of Melbourne through Edlocate and upon their recommendation; she received a 100% scholarship to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Bio-Medicine. Nimha Pathirage studied for her London Advanced Level examination at Museaus College, in the commerce stream. She sat for her A/L examination in 2011, and was successful with 4 A grade passes.
Though she initially wanted to study in the US or UK, Nimha always had an inclination towards the University of Melbourne and the counsellors at Edlocate encouraged and guided her to apply for a scholarship. She was awarded a 50% scholarship to follow a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce while majoring in accounting and finance. Vijini Dahanayake a student of Gateway College pursued her advanced level in the subjects of accounting, business studies, mathematics and Information Technology and attained 3 A grade passes at the A/L examinations.
Having heard of the reputation of the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) linked to the University of New South Wales (UNSW), she applied to UNSW where she would be able to pursue a degree in Commerce while majoring in accounting. Vijini applied for a scholarship guided by Edlocate staff and was awarded with a AUD 10,000 scholarship to study at the UNSW School of Commerce.
These are the most recent success stories of students who entered Australian universities through Edlocate having won scholarships at undergraduate level. In Australia and New Zealand scholarships are awarded by universities purely on merit. You must be a high achiever to win a scholarship. There are a large number of scholarships on offer for international students at undergraduate and post graduate levels offered by the universities. In addition there are faculty/ School/ College specific scholarships especially at post graduate level and at times these are funded by industry giants to selected students. Students with excellent O/L results at first attempt and really focussed to graduate in an accelerated manner could also seek scholarships for selected university Foundation programs.
How could Edlocate assist students with high achiever students to secure scholarships? With 18 Australian universities, the top NZ based university and 2 Australian university campuses in Malaysia being represented by Edlocate; we have a complete and a comprehensive list of scholarships on offer including government scholarships.
When the counsellors discuss with students they can gauge the possibility of a student securing a scholarship and select the universities to which the applications should be sent. For post graduate students Edlocate can seek information on research programes available at schools, colleges and faculties and introduce supervisors for such available research projects.
The staff would regularly follow up on scholarship applications and where necessary provide additional details to the universities towards the final selection process. It was a refreshing experience to meet with some of the brilliant students, and get first hand information from Edlocate staff as to their role in this process. It is heartening to get from the 3 students themselves how Edlocate counsellors have helped them to achieve so much at such young age which have made them so full of hope and aspirations to do well in their studies in University as well.
