World Premiere for Prasanna’s ‘Oba Nethuwa, Oba Ekka’
View(s):The internationally acclaimed filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage’s latest cinematic venture ‘Oba Nethuwa, Oba Ekka’ will have its world premiere at 36th Montreal World Film Festival from August 23 to September 3.
The film will be screened in the ‘World Greats/ Out of Competition’ section of the festival which was started in 1977. MWFF is one of Canada’s oldest international film festivals and it is the only competitive film festival in North America.
The film’s Asian premiere will be screened at Fukuoka International Film Festival in Japan from September 14 to 21.
Starring Shyam Fernando, Indian actress Anjali Patil, Wasantha Moragoda and Maheshwari Ratnam, ‘Oba Nethuwa, Oba Ekka’ is a co-production between India and Sri Lanka.
A bilingual film (Sinhala and Tamil), it is an adaptation of Fyodor Dosteyevski’s novella “A Gentle Creature a.k.a. Meek One”. Set in a post war Sri Lankan background, the film was shot in the hill country of the Central province in Sri Lanka and the post production was done in Chennai, India.
The 7th feature film by Prasanna is produced by Lasantha Nawarathna and Mohammad Adamaly while Iranthi Abeysinghe, Rahul Roy, Sunil Fonseka and Nadira Adamaly are executive producers. Experienced M.D. Mahindapala handled the camera, while A. Sreekar Prasad did the editing. Ebert Wijesinghe did the make up while Lakshman Joseph D Saram designed the musical score. Line Producers are Kalpana Ariyawansa and Vindana Ariyawansa, production designer – Rob Nevis, sound editor – Tapas Nayak and the assistant director is Daminda D. Madawala.
The official website and the blog spot will be launched parallel to the world premiere and Sri Lankan film lovers will be able to see ‘Oba Nethuwa Oba Ekka’ on CEL circuit cinemas next year.
