On his way to fashion stardom – Prabath Samarasooriya
View(s):Prabath is one of Colombo’s most popular young designers, started earning a name in the fashion world, even before graduating as a fully qualified fashion designer. Staring with ‘String Hopper’ fashion line that gained immense popularity owing to his creativity, Prabath also designed under his own name for several projects and fashion shows in Sri Lanka and abroad.
“I have been invited to take part in many shows in South Asia, from Hyderabad, Kerala, Jaipur and to the famous Chennai Fashion Week. Locally I am a regular contributor to Colombo Fashion Week and the prestigious Sri Lanka Design Festival.” While Prabath’s much esteemed participation in fashion shows around South Asia has earned an increasing fame for Sri Lankan fashion talent, his local appearances prove to be a constant inspiration for other designers and fashion students.
While Prabath has all the limelight a fresh designer could ask for, he remains a very modest and responsible person who tries to use his creativity to contribute to Sri Lanka and its rural communities. “I work closely with several sustainable community development project in rural Sri Lanka under government and non-government projects in Gampaha, Trincomaleeand Dickwella.”
Prabath’s formal education fashion is from none other than Sri Lanka’s International Design Campus, AOD. “AOD is the only place where I learnt fashion from level 0 and it’s definitely the best place that shows the “right way” to achieve your dreams in fashion. In Sri Lanka I believe that AOD is the only place where fashion is captured from the basic fundamentals in art and design, ethical responsibilities to developing a creative personality.” Prabath graduated as a first class graduate in fashion from Northumbria University UK, through AOD in Sri Lanka. Today, Prabath not only continues his successful journey towards fashion stardom, but also educates young fashion designers as a lecturer at AOD.
AOD offers one of the most advanced fashion programmes in South Asia. AOD gives South Asian students access to complete Europe’s top rated design degrees from Northumbria University UK, right here in Sri Lanka. AOD is currently enrolling for its 2012/13 degree programmes. For more information contact 5867772/3 or log on to www.aod.lk or www.facebook.com/aodsrilanka
