Wijeyapala Mendis passes away
View(s):Wijeyapala Mendis, a former Minister of Textile Industries, Transport and Highways in the UNP Government between 1977 and 1993, passed away yesterday. He was 84.
Mr. Mendis was first elected to Parliament in 1960 winning the Katana seat. Earlier he was elected as the Mayor of the Negombo Municipal Council after having won a seat in the Council in 1954.
Mr. Mendis was an old boy of Maris Stella College and Harischandra College, both in Negombo.
