Colts Cricket Club defeated Old Visakhians by a convincing 5-1 win in the final of the Women’s League Hockey Tournament played at the Padang recently. At the short whistle, the winners led by 2-1.The Tournament was conducted by the Colombo Hockey Association.
In the eighth minute of play, Old Visakhians drew first blood when left extreme Kansihka Vitahna opened the day’s scoring with a field goal, but in the 13th minute, Colts equalised when Jayathi Anupama converted a penalty corner and 12 minutes later she converted a second penalty corner to make the score 2-1 for Colts at half time.

After the change of ends, left inside Dinesha Perera made the tally 3-1 in favour of Colts in the 32nd minute when she made no mistake with a penalty corenr and in the 41st minute Colts scored their fourth goal, when left extreme Prarthana Upeksha passed to Dinesha Perera to sound the boards.

In the 48th minute, it was Dinsesha Perera  who once again  made no mistake with a penalty stroke to make the final tally 5-1 and give Colts the championship. The game was refereed by Satish Kumar and Maithri Vithana, while H.L.Mithrapala was the third official.

Colts Club posted a 3-0 win over BRC in their Women’s League Hockey Tournament fixture at Malay ground. There was no scoring in the first session of play. In the 44th minute of play, Dinesha Perera netted the opener for Colts and in the 45th and 48th minutes, Prarthana Upeksha added two more to make the final score 3-0 for Colts.

The game was controlled by A. Jayasena and M. Vitharna while H.L. Mithrapala was the third umpire.In an earlier fixture at the same venue, Visakhians and BRC held each other to a scoreless draw. Maithree Vithana and H.L. Mithrapala were the on field umpires, while T. Rasanjika was the third official.   -BM
