3-day INFOTEL 2012 from Nov 16 at BMICH
Popular Sri Lankan ICT exposition INFOTEL will be opening its 2012 edition to the public for three days from November 16 at Colombo’s BMICH, according to organisers the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS),
Briefing the media last week, INFOTEL 2012 organising committee chairman B.S. Lakmal revealed that the event was expecting about 30,000 visitors, and had added two new categories, IT in healthcare and agriculture. Previous INFOTEL and Mini INFOTEL events had featured up to 250 stalls in categories such as Hardware, Software, Systems Integration, Back Process Outsourcing, Office Automation, Communications, Training, Electronic Media, Gaming, and e-Sri Lanka (e-Government) services.
He also noted that the 2012 event would also include a fashion show since people now considered computers to be accessories and matched them with their clothes. In keeping with a more consumer bent to ICT, INFOTEL 2012 will also include a shopper area and Mr. Lakmal indicated that, similar to exhibition held abroad, this would avail the general public of the best deals for electronic consumer goods.
Also emerging at the media briefing was that, concurrent to INFOTEL 2012, FITIS would also be hosting a regional ICT summit for the 22-member Asian Oceania Computing Industry Organisations (ASOCIO), which will attract about 500 delegates, 250 of whom will be from countries such as China, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, Singapore, etc.
This event will be held at the Hilton Colombo over three days starting from November 15. Speaking at the media briefing, Secretary General of ASOCIO, Dr. Wong Say Ho also revealed that a delegation from his organisation would be visiting Myanmar between October 12 and 14, 2012, to meet and dialogue with ministers and the business community of that country.
