How to find your future career after A/Ls
View(s):Continued……from last week
Hi guys and girls hope you remember the first two phases of choosing your career after the A/L .If I just remind them roughly .
01.Conducting of self assessment
02.Explore and research occupations of interest
So ,today I am going to explain the final two phases
PHASE -3; Choose a career and major
You should now be ready to use the information from phases 1 and 2 to determine career options and goals ,and decide on a major
- Step-1; Create a list of several career fields and jobs within the fields that interest you most. Based on the results of your self –assessment and occupational exploration (Eg; Engineering related jobs ;Electrical engineer /Electronic engineer /civil/mechanical engineer ,Network engineer …etc )
- Step -2; Gather detailed information about each career field and job you have listed .Get a feed back from academic advisors ,employers ,family and friends about your plans .Talk with career counsellor about getting career –related experience
- Step -3; Narrow the field by identifying 2-5 of the most appealing career fields and jobs on your list and rank them based on information about your self obtained from self assessment and occupational exploration phases
- Step-4; Re –examine your list periodically .Evaluate the career fields and jobs that seem to be fit for you.
- Step -5 ; Decide on a career and then a major that supports your career choice .And explore your further education opportunities in the chosen career field. Will discuss in coming weeks what factors you should critically consider when selecting an institute for your higher education in the relevant career
PHASE-4; Search for employment ;
This phase involves developing and carrying out a customized job search campaign to obtain a professional position in your chosen career field
What are the benefits of career planning?
Career planning helps you;
- make informed choices
- decide the kind of jobs you want
- determine the skills that are necessary
- discover the way to gain those skills
- find a career of field to which you are best suited
- be more committed to your career
