View(s):The weekly film screening on every Tuesday and Wednesday over the month of September at Allinace Française de Colombo brings a collection of cinematic production ranging from war dramas to adventure commedy and romantic narratives.
‘Indigène’ (Days of Glory), a 2006 film directed by Rachid Bouchareb is set in 1943, while France is trying to free itself from Nazi rule, the course of four “native” forgotten soldiers of the First French Army recruited in Africa Abdelkader, Saïd, Messaoud and Yassin, renowned for their courage, are sent to the front line. Money, love of France or the French army, belief in freedom and equality, their motivations differ for the same struggle, the liberation of France, the arms. The film will screen at 3 pm on September 11 and at 6.30 pm on Septermber 12.
The French commedy ‘Astérix et Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre’ directed by Alain Chabat will be screened at 3 pm and 6.30pm on September 18 and 19. The film narrates as Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, decides to challenge the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar, in three months to build a sumptuous palace in the desert.
A French-Italian romantic drama film ‘Les Herbes Folles’ (Wild Grass) directed by Alain Resnais will be screened at 3 pm on Septermber 25 and at 6.30 pm on September 26. Marguerite had not expected that he would steal his bag out of the shop. Still less that the thief would throw the contents into a parking lot. As for George, if he could have suspected it would not have declined to pick it up.
All the films are subtitled in English and screened at the air-conditioned auditorium of Alliance Française de Colombo, 11, Barnes Place, Colombo 7.
