Theatre battle for 25 schools
View(s):The British Council calls application for its inaugural inter-school drama competition from both local and international schools to be held in October.
The registrations open till September 15 will allow a maximum of 25 schools on a first-come-first served basis to participate in the competition in which the preliminary rounds take place on October 7 and 14 and the finals on October 21 at Union Ball Room, Hilton Colombo Residence, Union Place, Colombo 02.
Organised by the Council for Business with Britain (CBB) with the major partnership of MAS Holdings, Etisalat and Norfolk Foods, the aim of the drama competition is to accentuating the talents of school children and raising funds for CBB’s distance English Language Training Project (ELT) conducted in many rural schools.
“MAS, recognizing the importance of developing English competency in rural Sri Lanka, is delighted to be associated with this event,” Shirendra Lawrence, Vice Chairman of the Council for Business with Britain and Managing Director – MAS Active said speaking about the drama competition.
To compete, each school will be required to perform a play or an extract from a published play in English on par with the standard of an Advanced Level examination literature text. Participants will be given up to 25 minutes for each performance with an additional 10 minutes allocated for setting up props and clearing.
