Kapilavastu relics attract devotees in their thousands to
Devotees in their thousands, from around the country, yesterday came to Colombo to venerate the Kapilavastu relics at Gangarama Temple. People were seen queuing since Friday evening, hopeful of fulfilling their spiritual obligation. The exposition which commenced 12 noon yesterday, will continue till tomorrow.
Police have ensured maximum security in and around the precincts of the Gangaramaya Temple where the exposition of the relics is taking place. Free food and beverages were being distributed by the Sri Lanka Army and other private organizations, while First Aid and toilet facilities were also being made available for the wellbeing and convenience of the devotees.
There are two entrances to Gangaramaya Temple where one is approached via Sri Jinarathana Mawatha, Uttharananda Mawatha, Elephant House roundabout, Bakeer Makar Mawatha and Galle Face roundabout, while the other is via Braybrooke Place, Hyde Park Street, Ibbanwala junction, (T.B. Jayah Mawatha), Gamini Hall roundabout and D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha.
According to special traffic plans by the police, Navam Mawatha, Perahera Mawatha, Hyde Park Road, Rotunda Gardens, Alwis Road and Braybrooke Place will be closed for outside traffic, with access granted only to residents living down these roads and for employees of workplaces located down these roads.
Parking of vehicles will be opposite Lake House, at Perahera Mawatha, Hyde Park Road, Rotunda Gardens, Alwis Road and Braybrooke Place.
