Juniors crowned at All island tennis
Lehan Koswatte (Maliyadeva Kurunegala), Vibuda Wijebandara (Ananda College Colombo), Ananda Gunawardane (St. Thomas’ Mount Lavinia), Neyara Weerawansa (British School Colombo), Umeshi Ranaweera (Ratnapura) and Jayathma Nawaragodagedara (Vishaka Vidyalaya Colombo) walked away with Tennis Singles Crowns at the SLTA all island open junior ranking (C Grade) Tennis Championship 2012 concluded last Sunday at the Matale District Tennis Club Courts.
Lehan Koswatte of Maliyadeva Kurnegala outplayed Charith De Silva of St. Thomas’ Bandarawela 9-7 in the boys Under 10 final the Under 12 boys singles final saw Vibuda Wijebandara (Ananda College) defeating Sean Sanderson (Bandarawela) in a three setter 6-2, 4-6, 10-4. Ananda Gunawardane was the winner in the boys Under 14 category. He was given a tough fight by Udayachandran Srinath of St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya before winning 6-3, 5-7, 10-7. In the girls Under 10 final Neyara Weerawansa beat Oshini Herath of Hillwood Kandy while Umeshi Ranaweera outplayed Nimmi Bernadette in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in the girls Under 12 singles final.
Jayathma Nawalagodagedara was the winner in the girls Under 14 category. She beat Takshila Ratnayake in the final Non Ranking events (Results)
Wenuka Kithnula of Maliyadeva Kurunegala bagged a double as he beat Sanudaya Bandara (Maliyadeva Kurunegala) 15-4 in the boys Under 7 final and then Gayan Weerasinghe in the Under 8 final.
In the girls Under 7 singles final Dinathya Dharmaratne outplayed. A. Kavinda 13-6 while Sewmini Thathsarani overcame Andriena Shelvmi 15-12 to annex the Under 8 title.
