MCA CA Blues’ dethrone SSC SC
View(s):MCA Cricket Academy ‘Blues’ dethroned SSC School of Cricket by two wickets to win the under 13 final of the 7th Inter Academy Invitational Cricket Tournament that was played at the MCA round recently.
The SSC School of Cricket who were the defending champions, batting first, were able to muster only 111 runs for nine wickets in their quota of 30 overs and the MCA CA ‘Blues’ with Vihan Gunasekera leading the way with an unbeaten 53 runs, cruised to their target with two wickets to spare in the 23rd over of their innings.
Based on performances upto the quarter finals, Jehan Daniel of the SSC School of Cricket was adjudged the best bowler, the player of the tournament and best batsman’s award was picked up by Nipun Lakshan of MCA ‘Blues’ while Vihan Gunasekera also of MCA CA ‘Blues’ was the man of the final.
Furthermore, a special plaque was awarded to Asel Sigera of the CCC School of Cricket ‘A’ for posting the first double century in the under 13 age group, when he blasted the Kangaroo Cricket Academy bowlers to score an unbeaten 200 off 107 deliveries which was studded with 27 fours and six hits over the ropes in a preliminary fixture at Sri Jayawardenapura, Kotte.
This year the tournament attracted a total of 48 teams that participated in both under 13 and 15 age groups with a total of 134 fixtures worked off.
