Police SC not only overpowered a tired and a broken hearted CR & FC but also gained the much needed bonus points and went on to win by 29 Points (4 Tries, 3 Conversion, 1 Penalty) to 14 Points (2 Tries, 2 Conversions) win in their Dialog Inter Club Plate rugby encounter at the police Park yesterday.

At the short breather it was Police who led 17-7. CR & FC who are going through one of their worst rugby season with several of their players crossing over to other clubs for better prospects. Police had things their way after settling down and playing well with the support of their foreign players. CR & FC though played well early in the second half were over powered by their opponents.

Police drew first blood through a Shanka Kumara penalty. Eighteen minutes later Police SC playing some super fast open rugby scored through their foreign player Rokobo Nasoni. Shanka Kumara added the extra 2 points to take a clear 10-0 lead.  The other foreign player William Batiratu got his first chance of scoring in the match when he powered his way for a try. Shanka Kumara was once more on target with the kick at goal to take a 17-0 lead for the Cops.

On the stroke of half time CR & FC scored through Saajith Suhaib with Muhsheen Faleel adding the extra 2 points to take “Lemons” at 17-7 in favour of the Policemen.After the turn-around Police scored through Shanka Kumara and Rakobo Nasoni. Shanka Kumara converted one of them. Piyum Jayasinghe scored for the Red Shirts. Muhsheen Faleel added the extra 2 points. S Shabir of CR & FC was yellow carded in the last 5 minutes of the game.

Today in another Plate Segment rugby encounter Army SC who are favoured to win the Plate will host Air Force at Army rugby grounds and are expected to take the lead once again from the Policemen. After today’s game only two more encounters are scheduled for next week which will give way for the Shanghai Rugby Sevens (September 22 and 23). In the last week-end of this month the much looked forward  Clifford Cup Knock Tournament (which is 101 years old) will be worked off in Kandy (Bogambara Stadium) and Colombo (Havelock Park)

In the annual rugby encounter between the Old Boys and the Present boys of Ananda, the schoolboys won by 29-24 at Havelock Park yesterday. Referee Dmithri Gunasekera
