Richmond Galle was the first team to book a berth to the semi finals of the Zahira Invitation Schools Six-a-Side cricket tournament when play ended on day one of the two day tournament played at the Zahira ground in Maradana yesterday.St. Benedict’s and host Zahira ‘A’ advanced to the quarter final after having drawn a bye in the first round and then winning their matches against Gurukula MV and Dharmaraja respectively.

The other quarter finalists will be selected after the four matches scheduled to be played in the morning today which are Thurstan vs St Joseph’s, DSS vs Wesley, Maris Stella vs President’s Rajagiriya and Prince of Wales vs Veluwana MVThe tournament organized by the Group of 80’s of Zahira in conjunction with the 120 years celebration of Zahira and sponsored by Premier Destinations saw 24 teams from all parts of the island battling out for supremacy.

The organizers will be offering a cash award of Rs. 50,000/- and a trophy to the champion team while the runner up will receive a cash award of RS. 25,000/- and a trophy. Apart from that individual awards, awards will also be given to the best batsman, bowler, fielder and the man of the match.
